Recommendation: The Power of Persuasion (DVD)

I never thought that "persuasion" could be scientific. I am interested in political rhetoric which in classic meaning, "to persuade, persuasion". It is an art rather than a science. I appreciate Aristotle's Rhetoric, but I doubt it could be used anytime.

For example, if anyone comes to me, announcing himself who is an expert of persuasion. He can persuade anything to others. I definitely doubt this statement. To persuade is not to order or enforce. Therefore, I have liberty to say no. Even like Socrates in the beginning of Plato's Republic, he ask the slave of his friends whether he can persuade them. They say no, and they will not listen. If one doesn't listen, how could you persuade except of some compulsory means.

Amazingly, Prof. Robert Cialdini is announcing he can give the audience six useful, practical principles which people could bring home and change their influential effect. He wants to show the science of persuasion. How arrogant he is. Although, he is a professor of social psychology.
These principles are as the followings:

1. reciprocation
2. Scarcity
3. Authority
4. Consensus
5. liking(?)
6. consistence.

Believe it or not, I think the DVD is terrific and persuasive. About the science, we can make the apple not falling down from the tree according to the physical law. But no one will doubt the physical law does not exist. By the same reason, we could say he can not persuade the specific man who do this on purpose. But we could say that the law of persuasion still exist. Prof. Cialdini  has shown in the speech. It is really an interesting DVD which can be borrowed from the NTU library.
